Dressed Shoot Spaces

There was a need for shoot spaces that filled the gap between the plain walls of a film studio and the complications and restrictions of filming in real locations. Furnished shoot spaces emerged to fill this void and there are now an incredible array of these spaces ranging from the grungy to the exotic, but are all full of character and opportunity.
Two of the original furnished shoot spaces were The Depository, known for its use as the original Dragons Den lair, and The Roost, an eccentrically repurposed pub. Both Castle Gibson, who created The Depository and Mad Locations, who created The Roost, have gone on to design an imaginative portfolio of other eclectic shoot spaces that are now popular for photo shoots, films, weddings and events. Other people have also now added to this list of spaces, offering the creative industry a whole range of exciting and flexible environments in which to film.

Castle Gibson
CASTLE GIBSON have some truly amazing spaces in a number of character buildings in Stoke Newington, including the iconic MC Motors.
MC Motors as the name suggests was once a car mechanics. It’s now a 6,000 sq ft industrial location that oozes character and natural charm. It has an abundance of natural light provided by the skylighted roof that even extends to cover what was an old Victorian street that cuts through the middle of this location. This is an Aladdin’s Cave of a location offering wonderfully textured walls, old parquet flooring, stunning old windows, unexpected further floors, props and even a small roof terrace.

The Depository is a classic industrial warehouse set over four floors. The ground floor is dark and atmospheric with an original lift shaft and spiral staircase and was originally used as the horse stables. The upper floors include beautiful original polished oak floorboards, large windows, beams, textured walls and a vast array of props.
The House Next Door is next door to The Depository and hence its name. It’s a former builders merchants set over five floors and offers glorious textures and wallpapers, complimented by classic furniture and a mixture of parquet and old oak floorboards. It’s the fashion industry’s dream location, but is equally popular for every other style of shoot.

The Film Shed is another great addition to the character locations offered by Castle Gibson. This ex-theatre rehearsal studio space is a faded gem of a warehouse with silver and copper tones and a wall of old lockers amongst the many other textures.
Dungaree
DUNGAREE have two dressed shoot spaces in the Haringay Warehouse District. Both were created in spaces previously occupied by fabric warehouses, spaces which were originally packed to the rafters with rolls of material.
The Cotton Store is a warehouse space with an incredible array of backdrops and props making a versatile space for any shoot. It’s eccentric array of backdrops include an old wrought iron spiral staircase, salvaged from the back of grand house in Primrose Hill, pink and grey textured concrete walls, 50’s style wooden walls and an abundance of greenery.

The Store Cupboard, again set in an old warehouse. offers subtle shades of grey and white, with a concrete floor and wall textures including painted brick and mottled concrete. Complimenting all this is a stylish shoot kitchen with a movable concrete kitchen island.
Mad Locations
MAD LOCATIONS have three great furnished shoot spaces, The Roost, Friendly Place and their new venture, The Farm.
The Roost is a former Victorian pub, which is now a huge bohemian film, photo and event location. The pub has four floors filled with an eclectic mix of furniture, props, artwork and wall finishes. On the ground floor is the old bar and the character patio pub garden.

Friendly Place is a huge location of 7,500 sq ft located in an old spice warehouse. It’s filled with eclectic props and wall coverings. It’s spread over four floors, including a gritty urban roof top.
The farm is just launching and we look forward to hearing about this new space in the Kent countryside.
ShutterHouse Studios
Set in a restored Victorian warehouse in north London, this space is much more than your usual photographic studio. Bright, natural light fills the space through a double door entrance and two wide windows, easily blacked out if needed. Brick walls and wooden textures characterise this reclaimed industrial space, making it a perfect location for both creative and commercial photoshoots.
Greenhouse is a restored 19th century warehouse in north London, recently converted into a photographic and filming studio space. Hugely spacious and multifunctional, the space is available to shoot with either natural light or studio light.
Art House is a restored 19th century north London Warehouse converted into a photographic and filming studio space.
The space combines clean brick walls and a big warehouse windows as well as a paper backdrop system and flash lighting.
