T H E  T R A M  D E P O T

Clapton is home to one of London’s last examples of a 19th Century Tram Depot. It now houses a bustling community of cafes, photography studios, live-work spaces and even a gym.

Incredibly, it is only about six years since the whole place was empty and awaiting demolition and re-development into 85 flats. Since the early 19th Century, after horse drawn trams were no longer needed, the site had been home to tradesmen including carpenters, metal workshops, car mechanics and furniture makers. More recently, in the 80’s and 90’s, the spaces above the tradesmen were home to an impressive array of artists live-work studios. When the developers came, everyone had to leave and in 2014 The Tram Depot became the deserted village.

Fortunately, a new developer bought the site and The Tram Depot has been saved and is home again to an eclectic mix of artists and studios. These studios take on many shapes and forms, but all embrace the atmosphere of this amazing Victorian street location.

C L A P T O N  T R A M

Clapton Tram is a plant filled film and photography daylight studio on the upper level of Clapton Tram Depot. The interior is painted white brick with skylights running the full length of the studio and a beautifully aged concrete floor. The whole light drenched space in crammed with a wonderful display of greenery that drips from the rafters and spills out of the building and onto the terrace outside.

 

T H E   T R A M   H O U S E

The Tram House is another warehouse studio, but again with its own identity. Skylights run the length of the roof pitch and wooden beams with hanging plants hover over you. The walls have been stripped back to bare bricks and textured concrete and the floor has been re-laid in old pine boards.

 

C L A P T O N   C O U N T R Y   C L U B

Clapton Country Club is a storybook of an interior. The unique interiors of this space have created an urban retreat in the heart of bustling East London. The huge steel columns supporting the giant roof steels and the distressed brickwork emphasis the building’s industrial heritage and add further to its atmosphere and wow factor. It’s the ideal destination for photoshoots, unique weddings and events.

T H E   L A B O R A T O R Y   S T U D I O

The Laboratory Studio creates an immediate impact with its original stone floor and stripped wooden beams. It’s yet another great studio in this oasis of choice that The Tram Depot offers.

There is just nowhere else in London that houses such an array of studios. Add to this the atmosphere created by this magical Victorian industrial setting and you couldn’t wish for a better place for your next shoot.
